The director and management of Sonja Smith Funeral Group have been made aware of inaccurate, untrue and malicious posts on various electronic media platforms, as well as abusive and threatening phone calls and messages being sent to the franchise owner of the Sonja Smith Funeral Group Midstream office.
We wish categorically to deny any wrongdoing or failure to follow all legal processes in assisting the legal guardian (father) to bury his son who passed away in tragic circumstances. The matter was reported as required to the SAPS, an inquest was opened, Forensic Pathology Services then conducted a post-mortem investigation, the death was registered at the Department of Home Affairs and the burial was arranged and took place with all required legal documentation having been supplied, including a Burial Order.
The vicious and threatening comments, calls and media posts are deeply upsetting and are without facts or evidence. Sonja Smith Funeral Group was appointed by the father, who is the legal guardian of the deceased, to assist with all funeral arrangements. All queries and questions regarding the funeral arrangements were referred to the father.
We at Sonja Smith Funeral Group, together with our Midstream franchisee, have conducted ourselves professionally and ethically at all times. We call on all parties to allow the SAPS to conduct their investigation into the circumstances of Baby Peka’s tragic death and to desist from harassing and defaming any parties. We have reported threats of harm to property and our personnel to the SAPS. We further reserve our rights to pursue criminal and legal action against anyone making false and defamatory statements in public.
We wish to express our sincere condolences to the family of the late Baby Kaone Peka.
